So You've Been (Re)Introduced To Taylor Hanson...

Welcome to a crash course in all things Taylor Hanson from a decades-long fan. Pull up a seat, enjoy the cheat sheet, and stick around to help us support him during his time on Dancing With The Stars and beyond! By the time you get to the bottom of this page, you'll be one of us.

1. Taylor is a member of the band Hanson alongside brothers Isaac and Zac. They are best known for their 1997 hit single "MMMBop," but fans know that was just the beginning of a much longer musical career.

Tbh, we're probably a little bit eye-rolly on the inside about those constant "MMMBop" mentions, but we understand that's the main frame of reference for most people. We love MMMBop, too; we just want them to be recognized for so much more!

2. Taylor is known as the pianist of the group, but he also plays the guitar, drums, tambourine, and harmonica, and he sings both lead and backup vocals.

3. The band writes and performs all of their own music and have released it on their own independent record label, 3CG Records, since 2003. If you want to learn more about their journey breaking from a major label and going independent, you can check out a 13-episode documentary on Youtube called Strong Enough to Break.

4. Hanson has continued to consistently tour and release albums from the 90s to present day. They have 12 full-length studio albums, multiple compilations, and over 20 fan club exclusive EPs under their belts. If you think it's fun to see Taylor dance, just wait until you see him jumping while playing the harmonica. Spoiler: he expects participation.

5. Hanson has maintained a dedicated following for just as long. Hi, we've been here the whole time, probably hitting multiple shows a year and racking up some serious show counts. It's totally normal in the Hanson fandom to grab a friend or three and travel to a string of shows together every time they tour. 

6. We have no official proof that his fans crashed the online voting system for episode one of DWTS, but our resume is full of crashed websites from decades of ticket sale frenzies. Hanson Day Karaoke, anyone? IYKYK.

7. Taylor is not just a member of Hanson and has collaborated with plenty of other musicians. In 2009, he joined a supergroup called "Tinted Windows" with James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins, Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick, and the late Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne. They released one self-titled power pop album together and played a small number of live shows.

As recently as July of 2026, he was seen performing under the duo name "Rambling Hearts" with fellow musician David Garza sporting a whole new set of co-written songs. If you stick around and join the fandom, your next assignment is excited speculation about when/how they might be released.

8. Taylor has also been dropping breadcrumbs about upcoming solo work. Whether that will manifest as his Rambling Hearts collab with David Garza or in some other way is a secret no one knows--yet. What we do know is Taylor has performed two solo shows at Hotel Cafe in addition to a popup Rambling Hearts show all earlier this year, and clearly we are entering an exciting new era of uncharted territory waiting to see what happens next.

9. In addition to being a talented musician, Taylor is also passionate about philanthropy. In 2007, Hanson launched a campaign called "Take The Walk" that challenged fans to participate in or even host their own one mile barefoot walks to draw attention to the need for necessities as basic as a pair of shoes. For every person that walked, Hanson donated $1 to charities that provided shoes, clean drinking water, education, and access to healthcare to those in need. Take The Walk lasted for over a decade and accrued thousands of walked miles and donated dollars.

In 2014, Taylor launched his own non-profit organization called Food On The Move in his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The organization hosts regular pay-as-you-can events that offer fresh produce, prepared meals, and access to community and health resources on a mission to end food insecurity in food deserts. First, catch up on the music. Here's a link to their discography on Spotify from newest to oldest. I could write a full-length book on where to dive in, but let's narrow it down to 1) Against The World is an underrated album, and 2) Don't sleep on the Christmas albums.

As for finding other fans? I'm not an authority on the fandom internet presence, but there are two popular Facebook groups that are the most active online fan community spaces I am aware of. (Yes, we are clinging to Facebook the way we clung to skinny jeans, side parts, and a band we fell in love with in 1997.
